M for Mind

Today I would like to highlight the issue of how some people with vested interest are taking advantage of youth by channelizing their mind and body in a particular direction. At that young age, in many countries, the mind and thoughts of young generation - vulnerable as they are, are not under their own control. Not having the ability to clearly differentiate the right from wrong and with thoughts of idealism and ideals filling every corner of their brain, they are the easiest lot to be brainwashed. They are not allowed to think freely and history is painted in a gory way to them.

Below few lines is an effort against this practice towards reducing rage and violence from our beautiful earth.

On a road less traveled,
                Treacherous, steep, winding up high

(They) Have trudged hand in hand
                Destination was never nigh.

Those hearts that beat to the same rhythm,
            Red blood coursing through veins,
The feelings are so alike,
          In elation or in pain.

Syria, Palestine and Kashmir
         Boiling in rage and ire,
Only loving embrace of brotherhood
Can  save our dear earth from pyre.

Mistakes committed in history,
     Should not pronounce the future,
Sensible mind  and healing touch
Can only aspire a bright pasture.

No poisoning the mind of our children,
In the name of religion and the Lord,
There must be a way to persuade
And exchange a hug for the sword.

  2. Jayant, very beautiful thoughts, expressed so vividly. Children are so vulnerable. They should be allowed to bloom. The last stanza of the poem is very powerful.

  4. Thanks Jayanta for bringing out this very important topic. Indeed, controlling the minds or thoughts or brainwashing the youth in the name of whatever cause/ideology/belief system is behind so many conflicts and disputes in the world today. Your poem is quite full of concern and genuine care for the future of the world and humanity. Well done! Incidentally, I too chose Mind for M.

  6. Agree. Their zeal and energy is taken advantage of and channeled into something negative.

  11. Great post!
The mind is a powerful creation and with it one can do wonders in their lives....What we feed our minds is what we become and what we feed the kids is what they will become too...One has to be careful with what their minds are being fed with!

  17. An important issue indeed . The youth , in every age , are always the target for vested interest of leaders , politicians and others , for youth has the power to bring change , to bring revolution. But as you've said they're vulnerable and fickle minded ....I agree with you completely. The verse is wonderful ..!
